Time To Show That I Am Still In The Game!

At my last retreat I was able to catch up on all of my Star blocks. Finally!!! But then... I got so busy with other things that I forgot to post them.  How silly is that!

I am using my Civil War prints from my stash to build this quilt. It will be interesting to see if it is going to turn out. Hopefully... it will!

I love seeing all of the lovely blocks that you all have made. There are so many great color combinations for this quilt that it makes it so FUN!

Can't wait until we get the April blocks!

I reached my goal :o))

Since the Star Crazy started I have had a goal to finish the blocks before the next ones were launched. And you can think 'that shouldn't be too difficult, you've got a month to do it....'. Well, the past months I have not succeded, been thinking 'I will do it tomorrow' and suddenly the month has passed. But not this month, the blocks for March are finished and its still over a week to go :o) Yaaayyyy !!!!

And these are the blocks so far. I know I've said it before, but I have to say it again - I just love the colours :o))

Wishing you all a lovely week!

March assignment

I finally got around to getting this month of work done yesterday. I am making mine totally scrappy. Some extra blocks might be made so if I need to replace something because of color placement I can. Most likely I will just wait until I am finished and go from there to see what or if any need replacing. I have noticed that on my Irish Chain blocks I have a few dark pieces next to each other and I might go ahead and change a few of those right away. They do not flow right. I didn't notice until just now that I cut off one end of the photo - you can see all the color though.

March - Granny Went Star Crazy

My March blocks are now done!
Below is a photo of all the blocks together.  I'm really liking this "Granny" look!
The little papers with numbers on them just indicate where the blocks go because I want the background fabrics to match with the blocks that will be sitting next to them.  Also, I made a couple extra ladder blocks to see how it is going to look.

I finally finished March

March is finished.  The blocks did not want to cooperate this month but I was victorious.  This is what my blocks look like so far.
Until next time,

Star Crazy March BOM

Jan K. came over today and we worked on the March Star Crazy BOM.
I thought these were quite easy to put together.
There are only 3 blocks this month.
It almost took as much time to select the fabric and do the cutting as it did to sew the blocks.
The paper piecing made it go lickity split.
8" Puss In The Corner Star
8" Chain Star
8" Irish Chain
Some of these colors are a lot more bright than I usually pick, but I like them in small sections.

And the forty-eight 1- 1/2 inch half square triangles are tucked away for further use.
How are you coming along?

Another month bites the dust

As usual, I have all my HSTs bagged up already. You don't really know if I'm doing them, right? *S*

One of these stars just fought me all the way. I decided I'll wait til the end to decide on repair or remake. Maybe by then I won't care. *L*

I really want to use this image to show off my new Gingher cutting mat. What a beauty! Double the thickness of other mats with some kind of rubberized center - you can even stick pins in to hold something. I also have the Gingher rotary cutter which I just LOVE. If you need either of these, take a look around for a good price on Gingher. Those are out there.

Finally...

Hi Everyone... I know I have  been suspiciously absent... the thought of all of those half square triangles and paper was too daunting. I finally got my stars for February and March done today. The rest of the blocks will be done before the end of the weekend then I will be back on track :) Here they are:

1/4 done!

I was happy to finish my February and March blocks at a quilt retreat last weekend. I'm working with a tighter color palette which makes fabric placement a little challenging.

You've already seen Jackie's February blocks. It was so fun working on them together!

The last two from February

Today I have made the two Irish Chain-blocks from February. I have never tried this before, but I dont think it was complicated, although it was a number of small squares.

And here are the four blocks together.

I want to show you my first block on the Jelly Roll Quilt Along at www.moosequilts.blogspot.com, I just love it. Im using 'Sent with Love' by Deb Strain from Moda. I know it doesn't belong here, but I couldn't resist...:o)

Have a wonderful day!

February... All Caught Up!

Hello Everyone,

I am finally caught up on February's blocks, YAY!! I went to a retreat with Tina from Seaside Stitches this past weekend and we both worked on our blocks.

The picture above shows my 30s blocks and my Kaffe blocks for February. It also shows Tina's blocks in batiks. The difference between hers and mine is that she is caught up through March. Remember though, I am doing 2 different quilts simultaneously, now onto the March blocks. Hopefully they get done before the end of the month.

For more photos, go here.

Until Next Time...

February blocks

Today I planned to finish all the february blocks, but it didnt turn out that way... :o) For some reason I was making a lot of mistakes on one of the blocks, so I had to rip it up over and over again. But just before making dinner I got two of the blocks ready.

And the next two lined up and just waiting for me to sew them....

This is such a clever way to make all the HST for the quilt, doing some of them each month. Then suddenly, almost without realising it, you have a lot of them finished :o) Making all of them at once would be rather boring. But after 2 months now we have made 72.

In some days I will print  the March-instructions and start the blocks for this months, trying to get a bit ahead :o)

I so happy I decided to make the Star Crazy quilt and joined this group, you all are such a great inspiration!!

Have a wonderful day:o)

Wow, another month already!  I can't believe that March is here already.  I just got around to changing the calendars today.  Here are is my update for the month.  I really like doing this one month at a time.  I don't think I would stick to this if I had to tackle the whole quilt at one time.  We have A LOT of half square triangles still to go!

Here is what all of my completed blocks look like together.  I am really liking this quilt so far.

See you next month,
Kristin

More Progress

This morning I pushed to finish the February BOM, and now I'm all caught up. Next week I'll work on the March BOM.

Not sure how I'll like those dark blue half square triangle units in the quilt; but after I get a few more blocks finished and can put them all up on a design wall, I'll have a better idea. If I don't like them, it'll only take a little bit of time to make some new ones.

Progress at Last

After a bout of sciatica that put me out of commission for a few weeks, I have finally managed to get the January blocks finished. I never did find a suitable batik for my background, so I settled on a plain ole white-on-white because I was anxious to get started, and I'm just fine with it.

I've completed the two star blocks for February and hope to have that installment done by the end of the weekend; then I'll be all caught up.

I just love seeing everyone's blocks coming together, and I love seeing all the different color combinations. These will all be beautiful!

March Blocks

Finally have a day where I can sew!
Here are my March blocks. These are getting much more fun.
I learned this trick at the fabric store one day. Pin your blocks to the "Cut & Press" pressing side and steam them in place. They hold the shape better, especially if they have lost shape during sewing. Hope this helps someone out there.
From my last post, someone asked if I had any problems with my "Cut & Press" and Ihave not. It is fairly new, though. I have only used it for one other project. (I can't answer on my computer, for some reason. It just hangs there and won't post. )

February completed!

Another month down!
I decided to go with a constant fabric in the diagonal lines because my backgrounds are different.  It gives it a little bit of unity.

I just noticed that the bottom right block has a unit that needs to be turned -- better fix that!
